House rules

Please read these before you book. They keep your stay safe and relaxed – and help us look after the houses and the garden.

Times

• Our house manager welcomes you in person – there is no key box. Please send your arrival time on WhatsApp at least 24 hours ahead.
• Arriving after 9 pm? Please let us know beforehand.
• Early check-in or late check-out only by prior agreement.
• Every adult guest shows a passport or ID card at check-in.

Electricity

Power cuts are normal here and often last several hours.

• Please use high-power appliances (kettle, iron, hairdryer, microwave) only in the marked kitchen sockets.
• Please do not open the inverter cabinet or fuse boxes – call the house manager if something is wrong.
• Use the outdoor lights on the house sparingly – they run on the inverter.
• Use the air conditioning with windows and doors closed, and switch it off when you leave the room.
• In the Round House, charge the battery fan while mains power is on.

A basic amount of electricity is included in the price. Extra consumption is charged separately. Only the house manager tops up the meter.

Pool

Use at your own risk. The pool is not supervised, about 1.8 m deep throughout and not fenced.

• Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.
• Please do not swim alone, after drinking alcohol or after dark.
• No diving. No glass in the pool area.
• Non-swimmers only with supervision and a swimming aid – nobody can stand at 1.8 m.
• Please do not add chemicals or change any settings on the pump or filter.
• Please clear loungers, toys and towels from the pool area in the evening.

Security

• Our guard dog may roam the grounds in the evening. Please do not touch or feed it, and let the house manager know before you go outside after dark. Is that a concern for you – for example with young children or a fear of dogs? Please let us know before your stay so we can plan for it.
• The back door and the veranda door are locked at night.
• Please keep the gate closed and your valuables locked away. The Main House has a safe; Round House guests can ask the house manager for help.
• Monkeys sometimes visit the garden. Please do not feed them, do not leave food or bags outside, and keep doors and windows closed when you are out.

Water

• Please use water sparingly. Do not drink tap water – use bottled or filtered water.
• Water pressure drops during a power cut – this is normal.

Health and Wi-Fi

• Mosquito nets are fitted – please leave them in place and keep windows closed at night unless the net is intact.
• Malaria prevention is up to you. We recommend travel insurance and personal liability cover that apply abroad.
• Wi-Fi is provided, but it can drop out when the local network is down.

Living together

• No parties or events without prior agreement.
• No additional overnight guests without prior agreement. Day visitors are welcome – please let the house manager know.
• Music outside until 10 pm at moderate volume. No own sound systems.
• Smoking outside only. No open fire, no mosquito coils indoors. Barbecue only at the grill and never unattended.
• Please rinse sand off your feet at the entrance and do not move the furniture.
• Rubbish goes into the bins with lids.
• Illegal drugs lead to immediate termination of your stay.
• Please report any damage straight away – including damage you caused yourself. Reporting always costs less than hiding it.
